Cookie Policy

This policy explains what cookies are, which ones we use, and how you can control them at any time.

Last updated: 1 July 2026

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. Similar technologies include local and session storage, pixels and tags. Together they help websites function, remember choices, and understand how they are used. This policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.

Your control: non-essential cookies (analytics and affiliate/marketing) are switched off until you agree. You can accept, reject or change your choices at any time.

How we ask for consent

When you first visit, a cookie banner lets you accept all, reject non-essential, or choose per category. Until you make a choice, only strictly necessary cookies are used. Your choice is remembered on your device, and you can reopen the settings panel at any time using the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer or the buttons on this page.

We use Google Consent Mode, so consent signals (for analytics and advertising storage) are passed to any Google tags and default to "denied" until you opt in.

Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland. Where personalised advertising is served in these regions, consent is collected in line with Google's EU user consent policy. If and when we serve such ads, we use a Google-certified consent management platform (CMP) that supports the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework.

Affiliate tracking — the important bit

Because TrueNorth Guide is an affiliate, reader-supported service, some links to hotels and travel partners carry a tracking parameter or set a cookie on the partner's site. If you go on to book, that cookie tells the partner the booking originated with us, and we may receive a commission at no extra cost to you. These cookies do not change the price you pay and do not give us access to your payment details. They typically expire after a set period (often 30–90 days) determined by the partner.

Third-party cookies

Some features rely on third parties who may set their own cookies, including embedded maps (OpenStreetMap), our analytics provider (Google), and our advertising and affiliate partners. We do not control these cookies; please review the relevant third party's own cookie and privacy notices. For Google, see how Google uses cookies.

Managing cookies

  • Our settings panel. Use the button, or the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer, to change your choices at any time.
  • Browser settings. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies and clear site storage. Check your browser's help pages for instructions.
  • Session data. The reservation and feedback details we keep in your browser can be cleared using the "start over" links on those pages or by clearing your browsing session.
  • Advertising opt-outs. You can opt out of many advertising cookies through YourAdChoices, the Network Advertising Initiative, Your Online Choices (EU), and Google My Ad Center. See also Your Privacy Choices.

Please note that blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site — such as remembering your reservation status — from working.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy as our practices or the law change. The "last updated" date above shows the latest revision.
